ECE R156

In June 2020, the United Nations World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP. 29) issued the technical regulations of Software Update and Software Update Management System (R156). The R156 regulation proposes certification requirements for software upgrade management systems, standardizes the implementation process of software upgrades, and ensures the safety, controllability, and compliance of the software upgrade process. This regulation officially came into effect in January 2021. The WP.29 Forum held in March 2021 reviewed and approved the R156 interpretation document, providing further explanations for some provisions of the regulations to help enterprises and audit institutions understand and respond to specific regulatory management requirements.
