ECE R157

Overview

The UN ECE R157 regulation is the first binding international regulation for "L3 level" automated driving, involving the Automated Lane Keeping System (ALKS). This regulation came into effect in January 2021 and was revised by WP29 on June 22, 2022. The revised regulation basically covers all scenarios of point to point autonomous driving on highways, and is no longer only applicable to low-speed or traffic congestion scenarios on highways. The revised regulation extends the scope of application from M1 vehicles to M and N vehicles, and extends the upper limit of auto drive system (ADS) speed in specific traffic environments from the current 60km/h to 130km/h.
