UL4600
Overview
On April 1, 2020, Underwriters Laboratories non-profit Standards organization (hereinafter referred to as UL) announced the official release of UL 4600 Automatic Driving Product Safety Assessment Standard, which is the first safety assessment standard developed by UL for driverless vehicles.
The scope of this standard includes evaluating the safety principles and processes of autonomous driving products, which do not require human driver supervision, meaning that the vehicle is in a fully autonomous state. This standard is based on design process, testing, tool qualification, autonomous verification, Data integrity, human-computer interaction for non drivers and other factors, covering corresponding risk analysis and safety related aspects and other topics, and requires the provision of safety demonstration. The UL 4600 remains technology neutral, that is, does not force the use of any specific technology in the development of the auto drive system, and allows flexibility in the design process. UL 4600 does not define safety performance, nor does it define simple criteria for whether it is safe or unsafe, nor does it involve road testing or acceptable hazard levels. In addition, this standard does not address any ethical requirements related to product design release decisions or product performance. After the official release of UL 4600, UL and relevant parties will continue to promote this standard to become a national standard in the United States and Canada, and continue to promote standard upgrades based on industry de
