What is the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL)?

Automobile Safety integrity level come from the international standard ISO26262 (Road vehicles Functional safety) series standards. This standard stipulates Functional safety for automotive electronic and electrical systems (such as motors, controllers, software, etc.).
The level of ASIL is Co-determination determined by three factors: severity (S), exposure probability of exposure (E) and controllability (C):
There are four types of automobile Safety integrity level ASIL A, B, C and D. ASIL A represents the lowest Safety integrity level, and ASIL D represents the highest Safety integrity level. In addition, there is a QM (quality management) that does not need to meet the requirements of ISO26262. Although there is a risk of harm, quality management measures are sufficient to control it.
Systems that simultaneously reach S3 (Life threatening injuries (survival, fatal injuries), E4 (High probability), and C3 (Difficult to control or uncontrollable) need to meet the highest security level ASIL D. Safety airbags, ABS systems, etc. need to meet the requirements of ASIL level D.
